The Project
With the 2022 Commonwealth Games proudly being held in Birmingham for the first time since its inception in 1930, ensuring that the promotional material matched the scale of the event was essential to the organisers. Claiming that “Birmingham 2022 will be a West Midlands Celebration with Birmingham at its heart”, the stage was set for an epic global spectacle attracting 4,600 sports men and women from across 72 nations and hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area.
The Brief
From Thursday 28 July – Monday 8 August 2022, Coventry hosted a series of events at Coventry Stadium and Arena and the city council were keen to ensure that locals and visitors were aware of the historic events being held in their city. When approached by Coventry City Council to provide a temporary promotional material for the city, we were proud to show our support for the local area and play our part in the success of the event.
With Judo, Wrestling and Rugby Sevens being held in Coventry, we were asked to supply a huge temporary building wrap and hoarding for one of the city’s most iconic and prominent buildings, attracting the attention of hundreds of thousands of people each day within the city.
Located in the heart of Coventry, the prominent former Ikea building has long been identified by Coventry City Council as playing a key part in the city’s year as UK City of Culture. The building became the new base for the Coventry City of Culture Trust team in 2022 and during the 3 weeks of the Commonwealth games will be adorned with a colossal building vinyl wrap that will promote the games and help to create a community of interest in the event.
Upon receipt of the artwork and dimension requirements, Graphic Arts Group worked tirelessly to produce several large striking, durable promotional building vinyls and hoardings to be used around the symbolic building. Produced to the highest visual quality and precision manufactured, the whole process from receiving the artwork to installation upon the building took just 4 days!
Using specialist access equipment and our expert knowledge of temporary advertisement installations we were able to smoothly fix the hoarding into place, where it will remain for the 3 weeks that the event takes place.
The Result
Visually stunning and visible for miles around, these eye-catching building vinyls and hoardings were the perfect solution to demonstrate Coventry’s commitment to being a host city of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Welcoming visitors and locals with vivid, attractive signage will help the city deliver on its promise to shine a light on this vibrant corner of the Commonwealth and work to improve health and wellbeing in the region.
