The Project
With six interactive galleries, the UK’s largest planetarium, and the iconic 42m high Rocket Tower, the award-winning National Space Centre is an out of this world experience located in Leicester.
The Brief
When creating new interactive public galleries to educate visitors on the space race and major space milestones achievements, The National Space Centre turned to Graphic Arts Group to provide inspiration on how their signage could engage both adults and children alike.
With a need for exciting, themed signage for the exhibitions, as well as clear directional signage to ensure consistent customer flow throughout the museum, the challenge to create intergalactic, engaging, and fun signage solutions was one we couldn’t resist.
The Solution
Following an extensive collaboration and insight gathering session with the National Space Centre Creative team, we were able to suggest several solutions that delivered on the project brief, inspiring the imagination of the customers while delivering informative and interesting facts and figures for each exhibition.
Throughout the museum, a series of exhibition light-box panels illuminated for maximum impact were placed in key positions. These eye-catching signs were the ideal solution for delivering key facts and drawing people into areas to learn more about the exhibition.
To further enhance and deliver a consistent theme throughout the centre we installed internal and external lectern interpretation panels and themed furniture graphic wraps. Bright, washable wallcoverings around the installations ensured the engaging themes were carried throughout the building.
All our wall coverings were chosen specifically for their high-quality printing, but also the heavy duty, anti-scuff nature of the materials, making them perfect for the high traffic areas of the museum that need to remain bright and engaging far into the future.
Why use illuminated signage?
In this project, where the internal lighting is kept to a minimum for atmospheric reasons, the installation of illuminated signage created the eye-catching contrast that drew customers into the information being displayed.
Illuminated signage is primarily used to attract attention and improve your signage visibility. It can be an ideal way to attract customers to your business, raise brand awareness, communicate important information or advertise your company’s location, both day and night.
There is also a practical reason to take advantage of illuminated signs to enhance the safety of your building. For any scenario that requires directing people to safety – whether during day-to-day operations, like guiding a visitor through a dimly lit area, or one-time incidents, like natural disasters or fire – illuminated signage provides high visibility in times of need.
Whatever the reason to install illuminated signage, speaking to the professionals at The Graphic Arts Group can help you ensure that your get the maximum effect solution available with the guidance and support of our expert team.
The Result
We were able to successfully work within time and budget for the client, delivering imaginative, engaging signage solutions throughout the building. By installing the signage solutions out of hours, we avoided disrupting the museum experience
With an emphasis on eye-catching and on-theme signage throughout the museum, the new attractions were an instant hit with customers and delivered the high impact, ‘out of this world’ experience that the client was looking for.
